This year's event to take place on August 27

'President’s Day is the highlight of the year.'
- Richard Downes, outgoing MHVCC club president

All Mill Hill Village members, past and present, as well as friends of the club, are invited to attend the 2023 President's Day on Sunday, August 27.

The all-day free event at our Burtonhole Lane home takes place from noon and is always a highlight in the club's summer cricketing calendar.

On the day, a President's XI will take on a Mill Hill Village Club XI. The bar will be open throughout the day and food will also be available.

This year’s event will be Richard Downes last as club president. Downes said: “President’s Day is the highlight of the year: plenty of food and drink at the president’s expense and a game of cricket between the MHVCC 1st XI and the President’s Select XI.”

Downes joined Mill Hill Village Cricket Club in 1987 and became 2nd XI captain in 1990.

In an interview in April at the beginning of the current season, Downes reflected on his four-year tenure as president. “The four years have gone very quickly. I am proud and pleased that we have continued to move forward. Like [past club presidents] Ted Kelly and Pete Jaffe before, I think I will be leaving the club in a better place than when I started. I am also confident that our new president will continue in this vein.

“The club is all about the people and the lifetime friendships forged. It is also my local club, which I think makes it extra special.”

An announcement on Downes replacement as club president will be made in due course.
