Ather has excelled with the bat this season, opening the batting for MHVCC Under 17s - becoming the division's highest run scorer - and skippering the side with maturity and nous. Ather's Under 17 coach, Andrew Subramaniam, said: “Has captained the U17 team exceptionally well, leading by example. He was our top runscorer and stepped up when the team needed him most.

“The transition from junior cricket to adult is never easy, but Has was able to slot in either as an opener or mid-order batsman, contributing to the Saturday adult league 3rd XI and 4th XI by scoring several 50s and adding runs at vital times.”

Ather joined the club in 2021, playing for the Under 13s.

Held at our Burtonhole Lane home, the annual Junior Presentation Evening celebrated the achievements of the club’s young cricketers after another successful season.

Director of Cricket Philip Smith, who hosted the event, praised the progress made across the junior section and thanked the coaches, parents and volunteers whose dedication made another memorable season possible.

Awards for the Under-14s and Under-15s were presented by coach Matt Barrett, who noted that several players in these age groups had also played Saturday league adult cricket this season with distinction, including: Meer Shah, Saif Suleman, Arthur Hickey, Joseph Fletcher and Samarth Patel.

Smith also celebrated the continued growth of the girls’ section, which now boasts five teams.

Under 17s
Our Under 17s came second in the Middlesex Junior Cricket Association’s Championship League Group C, winning half their games, including victories against North Middlesex Bs (twice) and Headstone Manor CC. Captain Hasan Ather was the division’s highest run scorer, notching 202 runs in six innings with one 50, at an average of 40.40 and a strike rate of 138.05. Jalilullah Rahimi was the second-highest run scorer in the division, scoring 120 runs in three innings with an average of 60.00 and a strike rate of 181.82.

Under 15s
Our Under 15s finished fifth out of seven sides in the North Area Division 1, winning four of 12 games. Arthur Hickey was the third-highest run scorer in the division, scoring 203 runs in seven innings at an average of 50.75 and a strike rate of 119.51. Hickey was also involved in an unbeaten partnership of 101 with opener Zaki Quereshi, who scored 50 not out, on July 16 against Totteridge Millhillians CC. Seamer Sai Patel was fourth among the division’s top wicket takers, taking eight wickets at a strike rate of 15.50. The team also reached the final of the North Area U15 Cup, losing the final to Holtwhites-Trinibis despite a terrific effort in the field, bowling out their opponents in 15.3 overs for 110.

Under 14s
Our Under 14s finished fourth out of five teams in the highly competitive North & East Premier League B, winning four out of 12 matches. The highlight was a 26-run home win over Crouch End in June. Arthur Hickey and Joseph Fletcher were among the top 10 highest run scorers in the division. Seamers Joseph Fletcher and Sai Patel were among the top 10 wicket takers.

Under 13s
Our Under 13s finished second out of five teams in North Area Division 1, behind Old Elizabethans, winning eight out of 14 games. Premkunj Modha and Ishaq Hafesji finished in the top 10 highest run scorers in the division. Leg spinner Premkunj Modha and seamers Amar Madahar and Aman Morjaria finished in the top 10 wicket takers. With the gloves, wicketkeeper Tommy Bartell led the division with 12 victims, including four stumpings.

Under 11s
Our Under 11s excelled, winning 8 of 12 matches to finish second behind Winchmore Hill in North Area Division 1. Bobby Fletcher was the division’s second-highest run-getter (226 runs in nine innings at an average of 113.00). Khush Savani also made the top five, scoring 199 runs, including one 50 not out. Leg spinner Zahi Sabir was the division’s highest wicket-taker with 12 wickets, including 3-10 away at Southgate Adelaide in May.
