Mill Hill Village Cricket Club members and supporters have raised nearly £1,500 as part of the Toyota Good For Cricket Prize Draw, a nationwide campaign supporting grassroots cricket.
The money raised will go towards a rebuild of our score box and an electronic scoreboard on our front pitch at our Burtonhole Lane home.
The Village and its members were one of 689 clubs nationwide and 15,012 supporters to be part of the first-ever UK Toyota Good For Cricket Prize Draw, securing vital funds that will ensure more people can enjoy the game now and in the future.
The total prize pool was valued at £232,040, including three brand new Toyota cars, money-can’t-buy experiences and vouchers.
In total, Toyota said more than £290,000 has been raised for grassroots cricket.
Our club will receive 100 percent of the funds it has raised to invest in the Village.
Mill Hill Village’s Director of Cricket Phil Smith said: “It was a fantastic fundraising initiative where 100 percent of the money raised goes straight back to the clubs, so kudos to Toyota and we’ve certainly benefited from it. It’s £1,455 raised and one of our members got a prize.
“We’re so grateful to all our members, families and friends who bought tickets — every pound raised goes straight back into improving our facilities for the Village community.”
“We’re going to put it towards an electronic scoreboard and the rebuild of the score box. We’ll need to demolish the existing structure - we’re aiming for a rebuild of the score box as a more sturdy, brick-built structure and then an electronic scoreboard to go on the front of that - that’s the target destination for those funds.
"Obviously, it won’t cover it all; we might need to do some more fundraising, but we’re hoping to get that up during the next season."
One lucky Village member was among the prize winners. After purchasing some tickets in the prize draw, Hiten won £300 in Marks & Spencer's vouchers. Hiten said: “Our boys have been at Mill Hill Village for many years, our son Khush, now in the Under-11s - joined when he was in Year 2. I think the Toyota Good for Cricket Prize Draw is excellent - it's a simple and effective way to support the club without frictional costs. I was surprised when we won, I don’t think I have ever won a prize before!”
