David Hickey23 Jan 2024 - 14:06

Club invites 10 sides to play in a 7-a-side competition to take place on March 29

'The main aim of the day is to get as many friends, family, and members - past and present - down to the club to celebrate the long Easter weekend.'
- MHVSC Chairman Sam Smith

Mill Hill Village Sports Club is pleased to announce the return of its seven-a-side football tournament in 2024, to be held on Good Friday, March 29.

The Good Friday Tournament, which will take place at our Burtonhole Lane home, will follow a group format, followed by a semi-final and a grand final at the end of the day. It takes place 12 months after last year’s highly successful event, won by Just Kool, and captained by Jay Roberts.

Food will be provided after the tournament. The club bar will be open all day. The winners will get their name on the shield.

Mill Hill Village Sports Club chairman and tournament organiser Sam Smith said: "This seven-a-side football tournament is open to all ages, sexes, and abilities.

"The main aim of the day is to get as many friends, family, and members - past and present - down to the club to celebrate the long Easter weekend.

"Good Friday used to be a massive day at the club. When I was younger – a good 20 years ago – the cricket section used to play Mill Hill Rugby Club in an exhibition match. It used to be a fantastic day at the club with both fields full of family and friends as well as the bar being packed well into the evening. The Good Friday Tournament, which started last year, is aimed at putting Good Friday back on the Mill Hill Village calendar."

It costs £100 per team to enter. The rules are:

:: full-sized pitches
:: maximum squad size of 12
:: 10 minutes per half
:: qualified referees for each game
:: team members to bring their own kit
:: MHVSC to provide the playing facilities and balls
:: pitches are grass and players should wear shin pads
:: kick-off TBC closer to the date but likely 10am

Entries must be received by March 15. To register your interest or to apply, please contact Sam Smith via email: samsmith194@hotmail.co.uk
