Village clubhouse enjoys new lick of paint thanks to volunteers

MHVCC Reporters24 May - 09:00

Two long-time volunteers with deep roots in club’s history give the Village a vibrant new look

Mill Hill Village Sports Club has had a makeover thanks to the hard work of two volunteers.

Phil Brown and John Ellis recently spent several days painting the clubhouse at our Buttonhole Lane home, giving it a fresh new look - and the results have wowed visitors to the club.

The two are pictured above in front of the freshly painted clubhouse (Phil on the left).

A Mill Hill Village Sports Club spokesman said: “We are really thankful for Phil and John for refreshing our clubhouse in time for the new cricket season. Their work has made a huge difference and will help foster an even more welcoming environment for our growing membership and supporters.”

Every way to follow Mill Hill Village this season

Phil and John are former members of the football section. John first frequented the club as a baby, as his father played for the Village for many years. Both started playing in the mid-1970s. John went on to play under the captaincy of Ted Kelly, who became club chairman. Phil’s first game for the club came as a 16-year-old. He left to have a spell at Barnet FC before returning to play for the Village.

Mill Hill Village Cricket Club is an organisation run almost exclusively by volunteers. No one gets paid to play, coach, undertake committee work or carry out ground maintenance work. The club relies on our dedicated members' goodwill, skills and services. See the latest list of vacant volunteer roles here. We’d love for you to help us.

The new lick of paint is one of several changes being undertaken at Mill Hill Village Sports Club, including new carpets, windows, ceiling and lighting, to make our facilities fit for purpose amid growing demand - there'll be much more news on this to follow in the coming weeks.

In addition to two football XIs, Mill Hill Village Sports Club now boasts an impressive setup with:

:: Four Saturday teams in the Saracens Herts Cricket League
:: A Sunday cricket league XI competing in the MPCL
:: A Development & Friendly cricket XI, also playing on Sundays
:: Mixed junior cricket teams at U11, U13, U15, and U17 levels
:: A girls cricket team

Some Saturdays the Village also puts on a 5th XI, competing in friendly fixtures.
