Mill Hill Village crashed out of the FMS Shield in a below par performance on Bank Holiday Monday. The sides were evenly matched but essentially Bentley Heath's big players all made healthy contributions while very few of MHVs did so.
Fielding with 10 men for much of the match due to absence and injury did not help the cause. Hard hitting from the Bentley Heath top 4 took the game away from MHV early with dominant stroke play. MHV stuck to their task well and reduced the run rate by taking regular wickets in the 2nd half of the innings. But the solid platform allowed the home side to make 244 from their alloted 50 overs.
This was a very 'gettable' target on a good wicket and a weak looking home attack. However, wickets fell cheaply and easily and MHV rarely looked like threatening the target, slumping to 139 all out in 29 overs. Run rate was never an issue but wickets in hand always was. More application is required from the batsmen as the league season progresses.
