Title wrapped in quick time and with a week to spare.

The Village 1st XI secured the Division 10 title in much the same fashion as the rest of the season, with an all too easy victory. Kings Langley IIIs were the visitors to 'the Lane' and after winning the toss elected to bat first. A quick 10 minute shower delayed the start and made an already damp wicket even wetter.

With one exception, the Kings Langley batsmen were not up to the challenge of facing the accuracy and movement of David Overton and Majid Asif's consistent attack on a wet wicket. The number 3 had earlier hit Saahil Mehra out of the attack after just 2 overs as the usually reliable Saahil could not keep hit footing or his line in the damp conditions.

The number 3 pulled a hamstring soon after and was then bowled out by the skipper having failed to get forward to a full ball. All the other batsmen collapsed like a deck of cards, with only 1 other making double figures. KL struggled to 54 all out in 23.4 overs. Captain Overton secured impressive figures of 7 for 18 in 12 overs. Majid picked up the other 3 wickets for 17 in 9.4 overs.

A shake up in the batting order saw George Downes and Steve Pullen given the opportunity to open the innings in reply but both perished cheaply. Marcus Cara damaged his average also falling for just 7 after getting off the mark with a straight six. With rain threatening and then falling increasingly heavily, everyone was keen to get the game complete without having to retire and return. Thankfully Nir Shah took charge and smashed a quick 29 including 2 sixes and 3 fours. He and Felix Charles were not out at the end as the meagre total was overhauled in the 13th over.

All done by 4pm and before tea was taken. Celebrations were a little muted (although still went on until 1am for some), as in reality the league title had been wrapped up weeks ago and the Village know they are playing several divisions below their standard. Still, you can only beat what you play against and tougher challenges lie ahead. For the time being, let's enjoy the winning feeling and the taste of championship success!!
