An opening day century from Danny Potter (122) was the bedrock of an imposing total of 281 set on a surprisingly dry opening day wicket. Despite this solidity from No.3 the Village were tottering at 98-5 in the 23rd over. However the lower middle order performed well in support, with Marcus Cara (41), Shash Seem (33) and Felix Charles (31) all making useful contributions.
In reply Holtwhites were always behind the rate after good opening spells from the coltish Saahil Mehra (1-35) and the useful new addition to the 1st team squad Shash Seem (2-32). Holtwhites hung in really well and despite never getting on top of things, they were still in the game until the closing overs, despite needing 10 an over for a long period. Marcus Cara was the pick of the Village bowlers on the day, bowling a tight spell of 1-38 in 9 overs when others were 'going around the park'.
An entertaining and winning start to the season!
