Perfectly timed chase in high scoring game

Second game up the 1st XI were away at Old Cholmeleians on a warm day and were asked to field as Danny lost the toss.

The Village bowling attack started with Saahil Mehra and Marcus Cara but the opposition got stuck into them early doors as runs were flowing from the off and boundaries were coming very easily to the batsmen, although Marcus would get the 1st breakthrough in his 2nd over as he bowled the opener. The change bowlers were Obaid Ur Rehman & Majid Asif who found the going just as tough as the opening pair, but both picked up 2 wickets in the innings for their efforts. The main stay of the Old Cholmeleians innings was the number 2 batsman, who looked at ease at the crease as he passed 50 and 100 in comfort. Dave Overton and George Leggett had replaced the change bowlers and both picked up a wicket, with George enticing the edge of the opener on 103. This saw the Village put some pressure back on the opposition and the run rate slowed remarkably. Andy Potter came on at the end and got the ball to swing and picked up a deserved wicket, with Saahil coming back to pick up his 2. The innings was wrapped up thanks to a misjudged one handed catch from Majid off Obaid as the innings finished on 234.

Danny Potter & Andy Potter got the reply underway and buoyed from their opening stand the week before looked to take advantage of a pitch that didn't offer the bowlers a lot. Both would pass their fifties as they blunted the slow paced attack and brought up another century stand with relative comfort with only Andy offering up a few chances early on. Andy (53) would be first to go which brought Jay Nandha to the crease for his 1st appearance of the season. He and Danny would continue the good work and put on 44 for the 2nd wicket before Danny was out LBW for 79. Marcus Cara was next man in and looking to avoid a 3rd straight golden duck which he managed with a perfectly executed forward defense. He and Jay both looked in good touch and would put on 55 for the third wicket. Both would depart shortly after each other with Jay unfortunate not to reach his fifty and so it was left to Majid Asif, David Overton & James Thompson to see the Village over the line with 4 balls to spare and 5 wickets in hand.

A really good victory and well judged run chase to get a deserved victory, which bodes well for the rest of the season, with the only down side being a 2 week wait for our next fixture.
