Mill Hill Village CC’s 1st XI home game against North Enfield IIs on Saturday was one of very few Saracens Herts League games to survive the rain showers. Only 12 overs were lost all day and the 88 overs which were played proved just enough for the home side to force a victory with 7 balls of the match remaining.
Having lost the toss and being invited to bat first, the Village set about building a solid if not insurmountable total of 217-9 in their allotted 47 overs. Meaningful contributions came from most of the top order D.Potter (47), F.Charles (37), N.Asif (29) and M.Cara (28).
However, the hero of the day came from the bowling unit. Majid Asif bowled unchanged from the Pavillion end, finishing with figures of 8-64 in 19.5 overs. A match winning spell in which the final wicket of the North Enfield visitors fell on the 5th ball of what was certain to be his final over, given LBW by an opposition player umpire!
A very useful 30 point victory, which enabled MHVCC to gain ground on most of their rivals and climb to 3rd place in the Division.
