After Sawbridgeworth conceded a friendly game seemed like an anti-climax, but we took the victory anyway

After the 3rd team had finished faffing about in preparation for the team photo and after the weather had stayed clear enough to start the game, the two skippers decided not to bother doing the toss as Lawrence wanted to field and Watford only had 7 men at the ground, leaving them little option than to bat.

It was always Lawrence's intention to give everyone a bowl, but the problem was keeping the game competitive at the same time. Fortunately Watford's batting allowed him to even bowl Matin as first change!

Ajay finished with remarkable figures of 5-4-1-3, but had to be taken off as he was swinging the game too far in our favour! Wickets fell regularly, but with erratic umpiring runs were ticking over, but eventually Watford could only muster 82 from 31 overs.

Lawrence had agreed in advance to give Liam a bat up the order and with Lee Crocker also complaining about his lack of opportunities, the batting line up gave the impression it had been spoofed. Dave Wing managed to play well, riding his luck on one occasion, but given he was the only one of the top 5 to get into double figures he deserved it. Matin, Liam and Lee all gave their wickets away, before Dave joined them, missing a massive hoick across the line. An unenthusiastic Pete joined Shahme at the crease and with Pete not looking to hang around, scoring a 6 and a 4 in 2 balls it looked like we would be winning sooner rather than later. Ajay decided to make the game interesting again, triggering Pete despite half a tree making contact with the ball before it hit the pad.

For the second week running this brought the skipper to the crease in chase of a small total. Despite only scoring 1* he provided a capable foil to Shahme (29*) picking up the runs that were available and putting pressure on the fielding side. A boundary from Shahme finished it.

Potentially our last game of the season, so I hope everyone has enjoyed playing this year. Promotion was the target, but to win the league was an added bonus.
