Cheshunt do it again to the Village

The 3's were up against Cheshunt 2's away hoping to do a lot better than they did last time against them.

The skipper won the toss and decided to bat to try and post a total.

James Thompson (1) and Matt Hawkes (2) opened the innings and James was soon back in the hutch being bowled. Matt soon followed the same way which brought both Farzan Dulker Nain (20) and Dan Penny (15) to the crease who looked to rebuild the innings after a bad start. Both looked to play sensibly and punish the bad balls with Farzan finding the boundary a few times and at 42-2, the Village had brought themselves back into the game. Unfortunately that was not to last as wickets then tumbled as first Farzan was out caught behind and then the new batsman Dave Knight (0) was bowled. Andrew Teague (3) was next in and along with Dan were trying to bat the overs to get the Village to some sort of total. Andrew then went bowled then Dan followed the same way and then Andrew Godfrey (0) was also bowled, leaving the Village 52-7. Afshin Yazdi (4) and Priyan Perera (2*) were next to face the bowling and Afshin was able to rotate the strike but he was then caught which brought Tommy Smith (0) to the crease. He was out bowled, which meant Chalky Cara (4) was the last man in and after hitting a boundary after coming down the track he was then out next ball bowled to the spinner who ended with figures of 6-6, which is why the Village only amassed 59 runs.

The oppo then set about hitting the runs in quick fashion and both openers were looking to punish anything from the bowlers. Tommy Smith (0-11) and Andrew Godfrey (1-15) were first to bowl and Godders picked up a wicket courtesy of a decent catch by Dave Knight. The number 3 bat looked in ominous form and was able to pick up boundaries with ease. Matt Hawkes (0-18) and Chalky Cara (0-15) provided the spin options and both were unlucky not to pick up any wickets. Dave Knight was brought on and in his one and only over picked up a double wicket maiden with both wickets falling in exactly the same fashion with Tommy Smith taking 2 catches at point. It was left to the number 3 to hit the winning runs for a comfortable victory for Cheshunt.

On hindsight the skipper should have had a bowl first, but the batsman did not provide any real resistance to a very good Chestnut attack, with only Farzan Dulker Nain and Dan Penny getting into double figures. Dave Knight also deserves a mention with his double wicket maiden but the damage had been done by the batsman. Next year we will have to put up more of a fight against a side that will probably be looking to win the league.
