Vice captain does the job in the captain's absence

The 3's were up against Frogmore 2's who had won their league last year.

Dan Penny was skipper for the day in the absence of James Thompson and he won the toss and decided to bat.

Piers Jenkins (14) and Joe Sheridan (30) started proceedings and it was Joe who was the aggressor as most of his scoring shots came from boundaries. In fact when Joe was caught the score was 38-1 and Joe had contributed the majority of the runs. Next man in was Anand Verma (47) making his Saturday debut and he soon got into his stride crashing the bowlers to all parts. The score had reached 64 before Piers was bowled to bring Farzan Dulker Nain (64) to the crease. Both men took the game to the oppo and were able to find the boundary with ease, with Farzan bringing up his half century in style with a customary 6. In fact they shared a very useful 82 run partnership in under 10 overs before Farzan was caught to leave the Village 146-3 off 23 overs. Richard Pfeiffer (6) was next in and didn't last too long as he was bowled. Dan Penny (6) was next in and similar to Richard was out shortly after being bowled. The very next over brought the downfall of Anand who was nearing a 50 before he was bowled. James Samarasinghe (38*) making his first start of the year played nicely and was able to find the balance of rotating the strike and finding the boundaries. He started with Mohamed Salahudeen (2) but he was bowled to bring in Chalky Cara (7). Chalky hit a 6 and stayed with James before he was caught going for another big shot. Tommy Smith (6) joined James and the youngsters put on 20 runs before Tommy was bowled just after the Village has passed 200. Andrew Godfrey (5*) was last man in and stayed with James till the end of the 40 overs as the Village posted an imposing total of 240-9.

Andrew Godfrey (2-26) and Tommy Smith (1-29) opened the bowling for the Village and Godders had instant success bowling the number 1 batsman for Frogmore. The number 2 and 3 batsmen for Frogmore then steadied the ship before the introduction of Chalky Cara (3-29) got the breakthrough trapping the number 3 bat LBW. Godders then got the next wicket to fall as a good catch from Dan Penny saw the last of the number 2 batsman. Dan Penny (1-36) bowled in tandem with Chalky as the pair got the next 2 wickets to fall. Chalky first bowled the number 5 batsman before Dan bowled the number 4. Frogmore's number 6 was playing nicely and was trying to resurrect the innings. Chalky then got the last of his wickets thanks to a catch by Piers Jenkins. The skipper decided to get Joe Sheridan on as Chalky was causing problems and the decision paid off as Joe had the number 8 bat stumped by Farzan Dulker Nain. Tommy had come back on for the last of his overs and he managed to pick up a wicket bowling the number 9. It was left to Joe to wrap up the innings with 2 wickets courtesy of hitting the stumps to bowl the number 10 and 11 to leave the number 6 bat stranded on 50* and the innings all out for 165.

An excellent display in the captains absence with notable performances from the newbies. Anand Verma and James Samarasinghe making their first starts of the season batted nicely with Farzan the pick reaching his 2nd 50 of the season. In the bowling stakes, it was Joe Sheridan and Chalky Cara who took the plaudits as they shared 6 wickets between them.
