2 wins from 2

The 3's first home game of the season saw them up against Watford Town IV.

The opposition skipper won the toss and inserted the Village into bat.

James Thompson (11) and Roshan Dias (11) got the innings off for the Village. Roshan was looking good again until a slower ball deceived him and he looped an easy catch back to the bowler. Dan Penny (10) was next in but he went in the 11th over as he was bowled. Gabriel Radus (35) making his debut for the club joined the skipper and started nervously. The skipper was next to go as he was caught behind to leave the Village 46-3. Farzan Dulker Nain (8) was next in and he and Gabriel put together a partnership with Gabriel hitting 14 runs in one over with 1 six and 2 fours before Farzan was bowled. Paul Simpson (2) joined Gabriel at the crease and Gabriel was next man out as he was caught before Paul was bowled to leave the Village 88-6 off of 25 overs. Joe Sheridan (29) and Andrew Godfrey (22) were the next men in tasked with steadying the innings. They both were patient whilst putting away the bad balls to get the Village towards a competitive score. At 142 for 6 and with 8 overs of the innings left the Village were looking to kick on but firstly Godders was bowled and then Joe was caught in the next over. Aakif Mafahir (2) also making his debut and Mathan Mahalingam (7*) looked to score some more runs but Aakif was caught before Siddhesh Kuradkar (0) was bowled as the Village were all out for 162.

Andrew Godfrey (1-29) and Aakif Mafahir (2-19) opened the bowling for the Village and both bowled nicely. Godders was a bit rusty in his first few overs while Aakif was impressive as he did not give much away. Godders got the first wicket courtesy of a catch by Gabriel Radus at gully. Aakif got the next wicket to fall as Roshan Dias hung onto a chance at 2nd slip. Joe Sheridan (3-18) replaced Godders and started well but it was Aakif next to strike as he bowled the number 4 batsman in his last over. Dan Penny (2-26) replaced Aakif and settled into a nice rhythm. Joe was next to pounce as he bowled the number 3 batsman before Dan trapped the number 5 LBW. Joe then picked up another wicket thanks to a decent catch from the skipper and then got his 3rd when he bowled the number 7 batsman for Watford Town. Roshan Dias (2-16) then replaced Joe and he had the opposition skipper caught by Farzan. Dan then trapped the number 9 LBW before a spirited display of batting from the young number 10 was eventually ended thanks to another catch by the skipper as Watford Town were dismissed for 101.

Another decent display from the 3's with handy contributions with the bat from Gabriel Radus, Joe Sheridan & Andrew Godfrey to get the Village to a competitive total. All the bowlers impressed again with Joe Sheridan capping a fine performance with 3 wickets but Aakif Mafahir set the tempo with an impressive display and 2 wickets with Dan Penny also picking up 2 on his first start of the campaign and also Roshan Dias picking up 2 to give the Village a comfortable victory in the end.
