Close game ends in defeat

The 3's were looking to continue their impressive start at home to Frogmore II.

Frogmore won the toss and asked the Village to bat.

Roshan Dias (33) and Piers Jenkins (32) opened the batting for the Village and started well. Runs were coming easily as both players were playing nicely which meant the 50 partnership was brought up in good time. Piers had started the more positively but Roshan had soon found his rhythm and both were scoring freely. The over before drinks provided the first break through as Roshan was bowled to leave the Village 69-1 off 15 overs. James Thompson (14) joined Piers at the crease and the pair put on 22 before Piers charged down the wicket and was stumped. No sooner had Piers gone, the skipper had gone as he tried to work one through mid wicket only to find a leading edge to return a simple catch back to the bowler. Dan Penny (3) and Lee Cara (0) were the next in and Lee was soon out as he was bowled by the spinner. Dan followed next as he was bowled looking to pull one that kept low. Mohamed Salahudeen (38) and Paul Simpson (1) were next in and Paul was soon on his way as he was bowled. Andrew Godfrey (0) was then bowled and the Village had gone from 68-0 to 101-7. Mo was joined by Mathan Mahalingam (3) and the pair rebuilt the innings with Mo provided the runs as he was managing to find the boundary and keep the strike. The pair put on 45 for the 8th wicket before Mathan was stumped trying to hit a big shot and losing his balance. Dave Knight (1) was next in to help Mo but Mo was then stumped in the 38th over. Tommy Smith (1*) was the last man in and he managed to get the Village to 155 to get to their 6th batting point before Dave was caught looking to score some valuable runs to leave the Village all out for 155.

Andrew Godfrey (0-38) and Tommy Smith (0-10) opened the bowling for the Village and both bowled nicely restricting the opposition to not many runs and both were unlucky not to pick up any wickets in their spells. Dan Penny (1-50) and Lee Cara (1-29) replaced the youngsters and both were tight with the first few overs as the opposition were starting steadily. With the opposition starting similarly to the Village the score had reached 72-0 off of 20 overs. Lee was first to strike as he bowled the number 1 batsman as he neared his 50 before Dan picked up his wicket a few overs later as he caught and bowled the number 2 batsman. Dan's last 2 overs were expensive as he was hit for 25 as the number 3 batsman began to free his arms and the game was getting away from the Village. Roshan Dias (1-18) and Mohamed Salahudeen (4-10) then replaced Dan and Lee and in Mo's first over he picked up 2 wickets, as he bowled the number 4 before Roshan took a catch to dismiss the number 5. Roshan then got in the act bowling the number 6 batsman before Mo got his 3rd as Andrew Godfrey held onto a catch at the 2nd attempt to leave the opposition 139-6 in the 31st over. Mo's next over saw him pick up his 4th wicket as he bowled the number 8 batsman and the Village had a slight chance of victory. Alas it wasn't to be as the number 3 batsman saw Frogmore home in the 37th over.

A close game in the end but the Village never got enough runs on the board even after a decent start through Roshan Dias and Piers Jenkins. Mohamed Salahudeen held the innings together in the middle overs as wickets tumbled around him. Only Mo made a real impression with the ball as he claimed 4 wickets in little over 4 overs but it was too little too late as the 3's suffered their first defeat of the campaign.
