Youngsters bowl well to set up the win

The 3s were up against Northampton Exiles at home and the skipper won the toss (his 1st of the season!) and asked the opposition to bat.

Andrew Godfrey (3-25) and Tommy Smith (3-42) opened the bowling and both started on fire as Tommy got the 1st wicket to fall as he bowled the number 1 batsman for the Exiles in his 1st over and then followed that up in his next over by bowling the number 3. Godders would get in on the act as he bowled the number 4 batsman in the 5th over to leave the opposition 18-3. A slight partnership ensued but in the 10th over Tommy would get the number 2 batsman out courtesy of a good catch by Sam Hare making his debut, before Godders bowled the number 5 batsman in the very next over, 44-5. Inthi Mazeez (2-18) replaced Tommy and he got the next wicket as the skipper took a regulation catch behind the stumps and then in Godders last over of his spell he trapped the number 7 batsman LBW, as Northampton Exiles were reduced to 55-7. Mathan Mahalingam (0-18) replaced Godders and the 8th wicket fell as Inthi bowled the number 8 batsman before a rear guard action from numbers 9, 10 & 11 would see the opposition put on a further 50 runs. Good work from Sanket would see the back of the number 9 batsman as he was run out attempting a 2nd run and then Mohamed Salahudeen (1-13) who came on for Mathan would get the final wicket thanks to an easy catch from Tommy, 117 all out.

James Thompson (0) and Craig Atkinson (32) opened the innings for the Village but the skipper was soon on his way as he nicked behind and was caught by the wicket keeper, 4-1. Sanket Shah (16) joined Craig and both were hitting boundaries to move the score on quickly as the small target was set upon but the 7th over would see the back of Sanket as he was adjudged to have also nicked behind, 32-2. Inthi Mazeez (5) was next man in and the score reached 49 before he was bowled, so Craig was then joined by Mohamed Salahudeen (33). The pair took the opposition to the sword as 4s and 6s were being hit all over the ground before Mo was out as he was trapped LBW as the Village were 95-4. George Leggett (8) came in but a mix up saw Craig depart as he was run out to bring Mark Kravetz (4*) to the crease, George wouldn't last too long as he was caught, 108-6. Andrew Godfrey (7*) was the next man in and it was left to him to hit the winning runs in style as he hit a 6 over mid wicket to seal an impressive victory.

Tommy Smith & Andrew Godfrey bowled exceptionally well upfront to share 6 wickets with Inthi Mazeez also chipping in with 2 wickets as the opposition were dismissed cheaply. Craig Atkinson & Mohamed Salahudeen were the stand out batsmen for the Village as victory was sealed in the 26th over for a comfortable victory despite a few scares. The Village would end the day in 4th.
