The 3s were at home against Totteridge Millhillians and the skipper won the toss and decided to have a bat on a warm day.
James Thompson (25) and Sanket Shah (15) got the Village off to a decent start before Sanket chipped one up to cover in the 7th over with the score on 23. Lawrence Bird (43) making his first start of the season joined the skipper at the crease and steady progress was made as they were both watchful of the new bowlers and quick to pounce on anything loose. The pair put on a 50 partnership in the 20th over and the Village were looking to post a decent total in the region of 200. James would be the next to go as he was caught at gully with the score on 89, which would see Mohamed Salahudeen (11) next in and after a brief cameo he would be the next man out as he was caught. Will Normington (1) making his first appearance for the 3s was out the next over also caught as the Village had gone from 89-1 to 110-4. Mark Kravetz (22) joined Loz at the crease and after a slow start the pair would hit 30 runs in 3 overs to move the score to 143-4 after the 35th over. Loz then tried to up the pace and was eventually bowled before Farzan Dulker Nain (0) was bowled the very next ball as the Village were 145-6. Andrew Godfrey (1) would also not last long as he was bowled to bring in Tommy Smith (5) to join Mark. Both Tommy & Mark would fall in consecutive balls in the 39th over, to leave Alam Khan (5) and Mathan Mahalingam (0) to see out the last over. Alam would hit a boundary before the penultimate ball of the innings Mathan was stumped trying to go for big runs with the innings ending on 166 all out.
Alam Khan (0-19) & Andrew Godfrey (1-36) opened the bowling for the Village and it would not be until the 10th over when the first wicket fell as Godders bowled the number 2 batsman, 28-1 off 10 overs. Alam bowled exceptionally and on another day may have picked up a few wickets for his endeavor. Tommy Smith (0-9) and Will Normington (1-25) would replace the openers and both bowled well with Will picking up the next wicket to fall as he bowled the number 3 batsman for Totteridge to leave them 90-2 off 24 overs. Mohamed Salahudeen (0-14) and Mathan Mahalingam (1-17) came on and then Sanket Shah (2-30) would replace Mo. Sanket would strike in his 2nd over as he got the skipper out who had just passed his 50 thanks to a good catch from Godders and then in his next over would get another wicket as the number 5 batsman was caught by Tommy, 152-4 off of 35 overs. Mathan would then get the last wicket to fall on the last ball of his 5th over thanks to a slower ball and a catch by Mark Kravetz, but in the 39th over the opposition would it the winning runs to complete a fairly comfortable 5 wicket win.
A disappointing day with the bat saw the Village probably 20-30 runs short of where they needed to be with only Lawrence Bird scoring a meaningful innings with James Thompson & Mark Kravetz making starts but not going on. There were opportunities in the field and had they been taking at crucial points it could have been a different story with only Sanket Shah looking threatening. The Village would end the day in 8th.
