Poor batting and fielding performance costs us

The 3s were up against Watford Town and the skipper won the toss and decided to bowl.

Alam Khan (1-25) & Mathan Mahalingam (3-31) opened the bowling and Mathan claimed 2 wickets in his 1st over. First he bowled the opener before the very next ball he repeated the trick to see the back of the number 3 batsman for Watford, 6-2. Alam's 4th over would see the next wicket to fall as Farzan Dulker Nain caught the number 2 batsman and then Mathan would claim his 3rd wicket thanks to a catch from Andrew Godfrey, 43-4 off 10 overs. The young number 5 & 6 batsmen would steady the ship for the opposition as they put on a decent partnership as Tommy Smith (0-28) and Nick Demarco (0-20) struggled to find a rhythm. Andrew Godfrey (2-27) provided the breakthrough in his 1st over as he bowled the number 6 with the score on 76-5. Another useful partnership ensued as the Village lacked the discipline to put the batsman under pressure and kept giving them boundaries and freebies. It was Godders who would pick up the 6th wicket as another catch by Farzan saw the back of the number 7. Mohamed Salahudeen (2-23) had come on and gave the skipper some control and he would be rewarded with the next 2 wickets to fall. Firstly he got the number 8 batsman out caught by Mathan Mahalingam before his next over would see the back of the number 9 as he was bowled, 126-8 off 31 overs. Another frustrating partnership would see the score get to 151 before Lawrence Bird (2-8) came on to get the batsman to top edge behind to the skipper for an easy catch. He would also get the last man out as the number 5 who was reaching his half century holed out to Mathan in the deep for 48 as the innings ended on 162 all out.

James Thompson (0) and Sanket Shah (4) opened the batting and the skipper would only last 3 overs as he was caught at slip to bring Lawrence Bird (4) to the crease. Loz would also only last 3 overs as he was bowled before the 8th over saw the back of both Sanket who was bowled and then Mohamed Salahudeen (2) who was caught, 13-4. Farzan Dulker Nain (30) and Nick Demarco (5) had the unenviable task of trying to resurrect the Village innings and it was Farzan who finally got a run to stop his run of ducks. He started aggressively as he was able to deal with the pitch and find the boundary with Nick providing decent support from the other end. With the Village on 47, Farzan was bowled before the next over would see Nick depart as he was caught behind and then Mathan Mahalingam (0) as he was bowled, 47-7. Alam Khan (15) and Zak Demetriades (6) were the new batsmen and put on 15 before Zak was caught. Tommy Smith (6) was next in to support Alam, but the pair would only put on 13 as Alam was caught, 75-9. That left Andrew Godfrey (0*) left but it would be Tommy who was the last man out as the Village had slumped to 76 all out.

A decent start was not capitalised on with 4 chances being dropped at crucial times. The pitch did not play particularly well but Mathan's 3 wickets along with 2 apiece from Godders, Mo & Loz meant that a decent batting performance would have seen the Village able to get the runs. Unfortunately only Farzan showed any real resistance as yet again the Village batting line up was ripped through. A very disappointing display against a relegation rival meant that the Village would end the day in 9th and would need a couple of victories in their last 5 games to be safe.
