Bad day at the office

The 3s were at home against St Albans on the front pitch.

St Albans won the toss and decided to insert the Village in bowler friendly conditions.

James Thompson (3) and Piers Jenkins (12) opened the innings in testing conditions and the first wicket would fall in the 4th over when the skipper was given out LBW. Mohamed Salahudeen (0) was next man in but he was bowled in the next over to bring Mark Kravetz (8) to the crease. He and Piers put on 20 for the next wicket before Piers was bowled which brought Matt Hawkes (9) to the crease. Mark was next out as he was caught at point which saw Farzan Dulker Nain (34) come to join Hawkesy but Matt would soon be bowled as the Village were 35-5 off of 17 overs. Callum Whitworth (6) making his debut then joined Farzan and the pair tried to steady the ship as Farzan was starting to hit the bad balls away to the boundary. The pair put on 41 for the 6th wicket before Farzan was caught in the deep going for another boundary. Callum would unfortunately be caught the next over so Tommy Smith (5*) and Sam Hare (5) were the next two in. The pair stayed in for 9 overs but only managed 10 runs before a mix up saw Sam run out. Sam Tackaberry (0) another to make his debut was the next batsman in but he would go in the next over as he was caught before Alam Khan (4) came in and was also caught as the Village were all out for 93.

Alam Khan (2-27) & Matt Hawkes (0-20) opened the bowling and with the sun out the batting became easier. Alam would get the only 2 wickets to fall courtesy of bowling the number 1 batsman and then enticing an edge behind to get the other opener. Callum Whitworth (0-32) and Sam Tackaberry (0-8) were the change bowlers but with not much help for the bowlers and the total being small St Albans comfortably reached the target in the 18th over.

A very disappointing performance all round with only Farzan troubling the scorers. The total was nowhere near enough but Alam bowled well to pick up his wickets. The only other positive was seeing Callum Whitworth & San Tackaberry make their debuts for the club in Adult cricket and also Sam Hare making another appearance for the Village. The Village would be 8th in the league at the end of the day.
