Potters Bar blitzed by Viilage bowlers

The tone for this match was set in the early overs. Electing to bowl first, having won the toss, the Village skipper turned to Alam Khan and Matt Hawkes to open the bowling. Alam (2-16) secured wickets in both of his opening two overs. Matt (1-18) got his wicket off his very first ball. Potters Bar were 3 down with barely a run on the board. A recovery of sorts was staged by the 4th wicket pair who moved the score on to 41 and then the 5th wicket who took the score to 65-5.

Inthi Mazeez continued his fine form from last Saturday with a super accurate spell. His figures of 2 for 14 from 8 overs was absolutely identical to the previous week. Such tight bowling builds pressure and the Potters Bar batsmen looked to relieve this at the other end. The beneficiary was Farzan Dulker-Nain, who subtle off cutters were also proving hard to get away. Trying to break free of the shackles, the Potters Bar IVs No.7 batsman, drilled one back down the ground and Farzan held on to a fine low return catch. The score was 83-6. What followed was something quite sensational. Not another run was added. Potters Bar's tally of ducks extended from 3 to 7 in a matter of minutes. Farzan secured a fantastic hatrick, one caught, one LBW and the final one to clinch the hatrick was bowled, through the gate of the unfortunate No. 10. The final pair lasted little more than another over as the PBCC innings ended in a hurry and a flurry of wickets. Farzan also picked up the last wicket to fall to end with superb figures of 5-14 in 5.4 overs.

The chase started with much circumspection. Tea was taken with the score at 16-0 after 10 overs. Andrew Teague opened with new boy Karan and both looked solid, until a controversial umpiring decision broke the partnership shortly after tea. Shahme Farook (23) joined Karan Chand (25) and their 2nd wicket partnership of 47, the highest of the match settled any nerves chasing the low total. Both perished before the end, playing ambitious shots on what was a slightly tricky wicket. A total of 140 would certainly have been competitive. Phil Smith and Sunny Patel were the not out batsmen at the end, as a comfortable victory was secured by 7 wickets.

This was a day when all three of the Village adult sides secured victory. A 90 point day for the Club was well celebrated. May there be many more to come this season.
