In 2026, Mill Hill Village Cricket Club enters a landmark year as it proudly celebrates 80 years at our Burtonhole Lane home. We played our very first game at our permanent home against Sutton CC in May 1946, an 11-run victory in a low-scoring game.
Today, the club is a thriving hub for the local community, with five adult Saturday league teams, adult midweek fixtures, a Sunday league 1st XI, a development XI playing friendlies on Sundays, mixed junior teams at Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 level, as well as four girls teams. (More info about our juniors section here.)
We also host an annual seven-a-side football tournament in spring, put on on a popular President’s Day on the August bank holiday and stage a six-a-side cricket competition across our two pitches at Burtonhole Lane every September.
The club has a lively social scene and takes pride in its off-field events, including team curries and a popular Christmas dinner held at our clubhouse.
Last season, all five of our adult teams won promotion in an unprecedented year of success, setting the club up perfectly for our 80th anniversary at Burtonhole Lane.
To kick off this milestone year, the club is appealing for members and supporters past and present, as well as anyone who might have been familiar with the club in the immediate post-war period - perhaps an older relative who used to take them along to the club - to get in touch with their memories.
Our Burtonhole Lane best XI of all time
The aim is to collect an oral record from those with memories of club, especially those from the post-war years, which will then be collated into a special report for the Mill Hill Village Cricket Club website and local media.
The project is especially important because a fire that destroyed our pavilion around 1950 meant that much memorabilia, including photos, perished.
We’re also interested in hearing from members and supporters, past and present, to contribute their favourite memories, anecdotes and photos from our entire 80-year history at Burtonhole Lane, right up to the present day.
A Mill Hill Village spokesman said: “Mill Hill Village Cricket Club formed in 1868 and had several different homes until settling at Burtonhole Lane after World War II. With our adult football and cricket sections, as well as youth cricket, including girls’ cricket, our club has played and continues to play an important part in the life and history of our local community.
"As the club continues to increase its membership and be successful on the pitch, we’re calling upon members and supporters past and present as well as members of the local community who have visited over the years to get in touch with their favourite cricketing memories and/or photos of our Burtonhole Lane and its immediate environs and remember the club's roots in the community. We’d love to hear from you.”
