Long-standing Mill Hill Village Cricket Club member Sumit Jadav was given the honour of captaining MCC South at Lord’s on MCC Men’s Day this week.
The annual MCC South vs MCC North fixture, which took place on Thursday, June 11, provides playing members from both ends of the country the opportunity to represent the MCC at the Home of Cricket, making Sumit’s appointment a notable milestone in a journey that began at Mill Hill Village. Jadav made his debut for Mill Hill Village's adult 1st XI at 13 in 2004. For the last few seasons, he has opened the batting for our 1st XI as the side has risen up the divisions in the Herts Premier Cricket League with successive promotions.
Despite rain preventing any play, the day remained a memorable occasion for all involved.
Jadav said: “It was a special day to be involved in, especially as captain. As someone who grew up playing at Mill Hill Village CC, it was a particularly proud moment to represent the MCC on such an occasion while reflecting on where my cricket journey began. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t playing ball and we didn’t get any cricket, but that didn’t take anything away from the day.
“Members, family and friends were in great spirits throughout, enjoying the pavilion, taking in its incredible history and making the most of the hospitality. It was brilliant to share the experience with guests and show them around some of the pavilion’s most iconic areas, including the dressing rooms.”
Jadav added: “A big thank you to Kate Matheve and the wider MCC team for organising such a fantastic day and for the warm hospitality shown to everyone involved. Despite the weather, the day was a huge success and everyone had a wonderful time. I would also like to thank Rob Arthur and Hugh Pilkington for giving me the opportunity to captain the side. It was a real privilege and one of those days that will stay with me for a very long time. Up the MCC! Up the Village.”
