A dominant win over Leverstock Green confirmed our 1s as champions, capping a superb season with 13 victories from 17 matches with one to play

'It's a fantastic achievement by the team to have come up a division this year and still dominated the league all season.'
- Club Captain Devraj Ray

Mill Hill Village Cricket Club’s 1st XI have been crowned champions of Division 4B.

Our seven-wicket home win on Saturday over Leverstock Green CC 2nd XI sealed our latest success and means our 1s have now won two promotions in a row.

The title triumph also comes off the back of promotions for our 2nd and 4th XIs. Our 3rd XI, sitting in second place, need seven points from their final game away at Northwood CC 3rd XI, to secure promotion while our Sunday 1st XI are well placed in the Middlesex Premier Division 5, in third place.

On Saturday, Leverstock Green won the toss and decided to bat against our 1s, being bowled out for 167 in 49.5 overs. Opening pacer Tommy Smith was the pick of the bowlers, with 3-25 off six overs. James O’Sullivan took 3-41 off 4.5 overs. Obaid Ur Rehman bowled a miserly spell of 0-12 off 10 overs. Chasing, the Village got off to a horror start with Sumit Jadav’s duck but half-centuries from Niraj Jadav (64 not out) and 80 from Sam Smith saw the side home in just 25.3 overs.

In our 17 league games this season, the 1st XI have won 13, with one to play. Winning the title was a true collective endeavour, with all of captain Devraj Ray’s squad making notable contributions.

Club captain Devraj Ray said: “It's a fantastic achievement by the team to have come up a division this year and still dominated the league all season. Though I've struggled myself on the pitch, it's still been a huge joy to take to the field with this group.

"We've hopefully got a couple of new recruits coming in next year, as well as most of the current squad, so I'm confident we can keep this run of promotions going.

"Crucially, all Saturday League XIs have performed wonderfully, with the 3s needing a win in the final game of the season to make it four promotions out of four for the club. What a time to be at this wonderful club. Up the Village."

2025 awards presentation
The 1s finish the season away at Reed CC 2nd XI on Saturday, Sept 6. On the same day, from 7.30pm, the 2025 awards presentation will take place for all our sides at our Burtonhole Lane clubhouse. All players are encouraged to attend.
