The next four weeks see Mill Hill Village make its debut in the Cawston Press Village Cup and take on Sutton CC in a specially arranged fixture to mark our 80th anniversary at Burtonhole Lane, as well as the start of the Saturday Herts Premier Cricket league and Sunday Middlesex Premier Cricket League.
Cawston Press Village Cup
We welcome triple village cup winners Reed CC to Burtonhole Lane on Sunday, April 26, in round one of the national competition in the Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire group. The club encourages members and supporters to turn up on the day and support our side in this prestigious competition. It's a 40-over match starting at 1pm. Reed, based near Royston in Hertfordshire, have serious pedigree in this competition: They previously won it in 2012, 2017 and 2019, so we're expecting a tough contest. The winner plays St Margaretsbury CC at home on Sunday, May 10 in round two.
"This competition is a great opportunity to pit ourselves against some of the best village teams in Hertfordshire and beyond," MHVCC Club Chairman Sam Smith said. The final takes place at Lord’s in September.
Burtonhole Lane 80th anniversary fixture
On May 17, we mark eight decades at Burtonhole Lane by hosting the same opposition we faced in our very first home match there on May 4, 1946: Sutton CC. A Mill Hill Village spokesman said: “We’re honoured to be hosting prestigious Sutton CC for a friendly 80 years after our inaugural fixture against the same opponents. Over the last eight decades, Burtonhole Lane has established itself as a thriving hub not just for cricket and football but also friendship and community, so it’s only right that we mark this milestone with a fixture the occasion demands. We also happen to think that we're one of the prettiest village grounds in London. Although this is a friendly fixture, we’re going to put together as strong a side as possible to take on a formidable Sutton.”
