Mill Hill Village members past and present, as well as friends of the club, are invited to attend the 2026 President's Day on Sunday, August 30 for a day of cricket, live music and fundraising.

The all-day event, which takes place a day ahead of the August bank holiday, begins at 12 noon and is always a highlight in the club's summer cricketing calendar.

Piers Jenkins: 10 things you didn’t know

This will be Mill Hill Village Cricket Club President Piers Jenkins’ third President’s Day. This year will feature live music from Richie Phillips, a guitarist and singer who plays classic pop and soul hits with a full band sound created with live loops and harmonies.

This year’s President’s Day will also be a celebration of the life of Dr Isobel Jayne Mock, Piers’ wife. Jayne was a regular visitor and strong supporter of Mill Hill Village Cricket Club and is fondly remembered by all those who knew her.

On the day, a President's XI, selected by Jenkins, will take on a Mill Hill Village Club XI, selected by club captain Devraj Ray, on the front pitch at Burtonhole Lane. Mill Hill Village members can make their availability known through the usual channels on the ClubSports365 app.

An inter-club match will also take place on the back pitch, with one side captained by Simon Martindill - aka Milky - who joined Mill Hill Village as a 12-year-old cricketer, played football for the club and also became secretary of the football section. These days Milky is based in the West Midlands. His Black Country Invitational XI will play a side captained by our director of cricket, Phil Smith.

Club President Piers told millhillvillagecricketclub.co.uk how much he is looking forward to the day: “Wow, what a season we have had! The final details won’t be known until September 6, until the last ball is bowled, but in true Mill Hill Village fashion, let’s celebrate early at President’s Day on August 30!

“There have been centuries galore from many batsmen this season, some scoring their first of their career, and there have been some amazing bowling achievements, some which I have witnessed, and a six-fer and seven-fer have already been achieved. Will someone manage eight in an innings?

“And as for the fielding... I have a dossier already that I will be revealing to the public on the evening of President’s Day. Some absolute howlers of drops (I’m in the club), and also some worldies.

“I’m very proud to be hosting my third President’s Day, especially being the first since I lost my darling wife Jayne to ovarian cancer at Christmas. Jayne will be watching from above. She usually did a lot of the cleaning on the bank holiday Monday after President’s Day!

“Please come along to watch two smashing games of cricket, with my team aiming to beat the 1st XI after their hoped-for promotion, and on the other pitch our dear friend, an ex Mill Hill Village footballer and cricketer Simon Martindill, coming down from the Midlands with his well-drilled team.

“I’m looking forward to all club members, former players and their friends and family coming down to enjoy a few drinks, some lovely food, and singer Richie Phillips will be rocking the night away with what promises to be an amazing set. I’m looking forward to my slow dance with club captain Dev!

Milky said: “I can’t wait to see a lot of old friends. I’ve got a great crew coming down from the Midlands, and I’ve offered my lad 50 quid if he gets Smudger [Director of Cricket Phil Smith] out! Richie is a great musician so it should be a brilliant day!”

A Mill Hill Village Sports Club spokesman said: “Whether you're a current player, former member or simply a friend of the club, we'd love to see you at Burtonhole Lane in the year we celebrate our 80th anniversary at our present home for one of the highlights of the summer. Come along to enjoy a great day of cricket, live music, fundraising and good company as we celebrate everything that makes our club so special.”

The event is free to attend - you don’t need a ticket or book in advance, just turn up.
