Mill Hill Village Sports Club received a welcome boost after a team of volunteers from Gardiner & Theobald LLP, a London-headquartered construction and property consultancy, took part in a day of practical improvement work at the club’s nine-acre site.
Nine employees from the firm participated in the effort, which formed part of Gardiner & Theobald’s annual volunteering initiative. The day was coordinated by Jonny Bryer, a Senior Project Manager at the company, who was introduced to the club through Middlesex County Cricket Club.
Volunteering at Mill Hill Village Cricket Club
Mill Hill Village Sports Club groundsman Pete Jaffe said: “Like most recreational clubs, we’re run entirely by volunteers. As groundsman I’m responsible for maintaining, watering and rolling the pitches, repairing - or where possible upgrading - the clubhouse and tending to the ‘edges and corners’ of the roughly nine-acre site on which our club sits. So any outside help is always welcomed and appreciated.
“Gardiner & Theobald turned up with a nine-strong team of volunteers who were keen to help. Battling hawthorn, brambles and a blazing hot sun, they managed to trim, shovel, cut, saw, rake and sweep their way to clearing around 75 metres of car park edges, reclaiming 15 metres of overgrown car park in the process. What a difference it’s made to how welcoming the club looks and I’ve already had compliments from some of our regular dog walkers.
“It’s always nice to get some help and this has definitely given the club a mid season boost looks-wise.”
Mill Hill Village Sports Club would like to thank Jonny Bryer and his team of volunteers from Gardiner & Theobald for their sterling efforts on the day.
