Farzan bashes Hertford in the heat

Report
The season began with a visit to Hertford on a glorious sunny afternoon. Predictably the skipper lost the toss and less predictably the Hertford skipper elected to field in the heat with 6 youngsters in the side. Zaf Basit and Inthikhab Mazeez got us off to a solid start on the slow May wicket and the score ticked along nicely until Zaf (11) was caught behind in the 11th over (40/1). Inthi (21) took advantage of the short boundary but was also caught behind a couple of overs later to bring Pete Jaffe and the newly unretired Naz Asif together. The score had progressed to 72 when Naz (9) pulled the ball straight at midwicket who took the catch comfortably. Pete and Mohamed Salahudeen pushed the score along until Pete (26) was trapped LBW on his back leg (92/4) to bring in Farzan Dulker Nain. Farzan set about the Hertford bowling in his usual attacking style and 29 were added, mostly by Farzy, rapidly before Moh (11) was caught (121/5). Farzy continued his assault with the skipper giving him the strike whenever possible and the score raced along at 9 an over until Farzan was finally bowled for 77 out of the 95 runs scored while he was at the crease (187/6). David Flavell (26) and Ali Javed (10) took the score to 218 until Ali wrong footed the skipper who was run out by a direct hit by the opposition skipper. Ali was caught and bowled in the same over (222/8) and Shash (15) bashed the ball around before invoking the spirit of Sanket, being bowled whilst attempting a reverse sweep..... The innings finished on a decent 244 for 9 from our 50 overs.
Ali Javed and Shash Seem opened the bowling and though Ali struggled find his line, Shash struck in the 6th over, bowling opener Phil Underdown for 1 (11/1). Ali swiftly rediscovered his radar and the Hertford batsmen became more intent on survival than keeping up with the run rate. Inthi and Moh continued the pressure on the batsmen, and with the run rate climbing wickets began to tumble with Inthi removing both no 3 Jakub Pickering (1) and opener David Spring (22) in the 21st over (34/3). Moh bowled veteran Eric Riddle (0) and his son Oran (0) was taught a hard lesson as Zaf stumped him when he didn't realise he was out of his crease (37/5). The stubborn resistance of wicket keeper Nick Horton (20) was ended when Harry Arjan did well to catch him at gully off the bowling of Nick Demarco, who struck again in his second over, bowling youngster Matthew Ahl for 6 (73/7, 27th over). Hertford captain David Benham and youngster George Giblett dug in and took the score to 102 when the returning Ali bowled Benham for 19. Naz wrapped up the innings, bowling Ollie Barnaby (5) and Zaf gave a second lesson in batting in your crease to Harry Blackman (0) to end the Hertford innings on 119 from 41.2 overs to seal a comfortable 125 run victory
Overall it was a pleasant start to the season, played in good spirit. Every batsman contributed and Farzan was the star with a rapid game-changing 77. The bowlers all got a decent workout with the wickets were shared out evenly.

Hertford IV 10 points, Mill Hill Village II 30 points.
