Mill Hill Village members past and present, as well as friends of the club, are invited to attend the 2025 President's Day on Sunday, August 24.
The all-day free event, which takes place a day ahead of the August bank holiday, begins at 1pm and is a highlight in the club's summer cricketing calendar.
This will be Mill Hill Village Club President Piers Jenkins’ second President’s Day, having taken on the role on from Richard Downes, who spent four successful years in the role.
On the day, a President's XI selected by Jenkins (pictured above on a recent Village tour of the Netherlands) will take on a Mill Hill Village Club XI selected by club captain Devraj Ray on the front pitch at our Burtonhole Lane home. An inter-club match will also take place on the back pitch.
Players can make their availability known in the usual way, through the ClubSports365 app.
Jenkins told millhillvillagecricketclub.co.uk: "Please come along to our party on Sunday, August 24, where you are personally invited by me. I would love you all to join me and watch two big games with a full-strength 1st XI putting their reputation as table toppers at stake as my Invitational XI challenges them.
"President's Day is always a brilliant day, with the food and drinks already paid for, catering to your favourite tipples of wine or beer or soft drinks. The food is a mixture of halal meat and vegetarian options. Come over to Mill Hill Village with all your family, the bar will open at around 1pm. I can’t wait to welcome you to our lovely little club."
It is a club tradition for the president to fund a proportion of the catering and available refreshments on President’s Day.
Piers Jenkins: 10 things you didn't know
The role of club president is primarily as a figurehead, to represent the club on official occasions and promote the club locally. The president may also preside over the AGM and attend committee meetings.
From the archive: Piers Jenkins selects his Mill Hill Village all-time XI
An independent financial adviser based in Ealing, Jenkins has been an active member of Mill Hill Village for more than three decades. His debut was an away fixture in 1988 against Ruislip. In a previous interview, he said of that first Village appearance: "I was batting at six and scored 13 for the Sunday 3s.” That year the top-order batsman began playing regularly for the 3rd XI, under the captaincy of Tom Wye, and he has turned out for the club ever since. In the mid-1990s he captained a Sunday 2nd XI for a season.
Since then, Jenkins has scored an impressive 20 tons for Mill Hill Village Cricket Club, notching his first in 1992 - 109 not out for a Village 3rd XI against Harrow St Mary’s 2nd X. He still continues to turn out for the 5th XI, often opening the batting, and recently went on the club tour to the Netherlands (pictured above; read his tour diary here.)
